Bugatti has unveiled its latest masterpiece, the Tourbillon hypercar, signaling a new era for the iconic brand. This extraordinary vehicle merges Rimac’s electric vehicle expertise with a groundbreaking V-16 engine developed in collaboration with Cosworth.
The Tourbillon marks Bugatti’s second release since joining forces with Rimac in 2021, and it’s a departure from the Chiron’s quad-turbo setup. Instead, it boasts an all-new 8.3-liter V-16 engine with a cross-plane crank, capable of revving up to 9000 rpm and delivering an impressive 986 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Unlike its predecessor, this engine relies on natural aspiration, showcasing a unique approach in the hypercar realm.
Hybrid Powertrain
What sets the Tourbillon apart is its hybrid powertrain, which combines the V-16 engine with three electric motors—two at the front axle and one at the rear. Together, they contribute an additional 789 horsepower, bringing the total power output to a staggering 1775 horsepower. This advanced setup not only ensures exceptional performance but also offers an electric range of nearly 30 miles, providing a blend of power and efficiency rare in the hypercar market.
The redesign under the Tourbillon’s carbon-fiber body has allowed Bugatti Rimac to optimize its components and enhance the car’s ergonomics. The interior reflects its name with a gauge cluster resembling a mechanical watch, crafted from scratch-resistant milled sapphire crystal. This analog-inspired design, complemented by a Swiss watchmaker’s touch on the gauges, ensures a timeless appeal that resonates with luxury car enthusiasts.
Externally, the Tourbillon maintains Bugatti’s classic design elements while introducing new features like a narrower horseshoe grille and a distinctive C-shaped line at the back. These aerodynamic enhancements, including a carbon-fiber underbody diffuser and a submerged rear wing serving as an airbrake, contribute to its impressive top speed of 277 mph.
Bugatti plans to produce only 250 Tourbillons starting in 2026, catering exclusively to customers with a history of owning Bugatti or Rimac models. This exclusivity, combined with its unparalleled performance and design innovation, positions the Tourbillon as a coveted symbol of automotive excellence in the hypercar segment. For enthusiasts and collectors alike, the Tourbillon represents a blend of cutting-edge technology and timeless craftsmanship, setting a new benchmark for luxury automotive engineering.
